Kicking Against the Goads

I read the book of Acts just over a year and a half ago, but recently I started a more in-depth study of Acts. One of my favorite parts is Saul’s conversion on the road to Damascus. continue reading »

The Man and the Birds

Last year after Christmas, a friend of mine at work set me onto a story that Paul Harvey used to tell during the Christmas season. It’s a touching story that really helps to bring out the story of God coming to Earth as man. Since this is the Christmas season, I thought I would post it up this evening. I only wish we could have the whole effect of Paul Harvey narrating it. As we read this wonderful story, I hope we all remember what this season truly is about. continue reading »

It Is Finished

You will have to excuse the play on words there in the title, but this weekend I finished something I started almost 16 months ago. Back in October of 2008 I set out to read my Bible, complete with study notes from cover to cover in a year. Well, it took a little more than a year but Saturday morning, December 5th, 2009, I finished. continue reading »

I love Ephesians 6:10-18. Commonly known as “The Armor of God.” This is a cool video taken from the films, 300, Troy, and Gladiator. Excellent music too. Hope you enjoy it. continue reading »

Ebed-Melech

Besides being a Vikings fan, I have been a fan of football all my life. From that, I have always been intrigued by obscure players that make a huge impact to a situation and then are almost never heard from again. A couple of players come to mind. continue reading »

My Friend

Friend. That’s a word tossed around all too easily by me for most of my life. I think everyone does in one way or the other. But just what is a friend, and what does he mean to you? continue reading »

The Motions

That’s actually the title of a very good Matthew West song that has been playing the last couple mornings as I have been studying Isaiah this holiday weekend. Turns out one of the verses I like in this song plays into a few passages I came across in Isaiah. continue reading »

The Vanity of Life

That’s actually the title to the opening of Ecclesiastes. It varies depending on your translation of the Bible, but this one from the New King James says it best for me. continue reading »

The Thirst That Never Dies

One of the first chapters of the Bible that really caught my attention when I began my reading was the Woman of Samaria. It is in John 4 and has always stuck with me. I have been thinking of it quite a bit as one of the verses is my favorite and keeps popping up of late. continue reading »

God’s Chisel

Last Sunday we watched a video at church by The Skit Guys titled “God’s Chisel”. When God chisels the dead weight out of our lives it can be very painful. In one of their most requested skits, Tommy and Eddie give a very creative look at a typical believer having to go through the process of discipline. continue reading »

Don’t Worry, Be Happy

For those of you old enough to remember, that was the title to a hit song by Bobby McFerrin back in 1988. The phrase was originally coined by Meher Baba in the mid 1900’s. It was a good philosophy then and still is today, especially with the state of our economy of late. continue reading »

Taming the Tongue

Over my lifetime I have done a lot of things that have gotten me into trouble. I won’t go into those here, but I grew up in the 60’s so you can use your imagination. ;-) Of all the things though that have gotten me into trouble over my life, my mouth ranks as #1 for getting me in hot water. continue reading »
