Circumstantial Priorities

Money or Water

I have always been fascinated by how our priorities change due to different circumstances, different times or places in our lives. We make radically different choices depending on our surroundings or what is taking place at the time.

For instance, if I gave you a choice of $100 or a glass of water, which one would you choose? Under normal circumstances you would choose the money. But let’s change the scenery just a bit. You have now been in Death Valley for three days with no shelter or water. Now I offer you the same $100 or a glass of water, which one would you choose? You would no doubt now take the glass of water as the money would mean nothing in this situation. This is called “circumstantial priorities.” Your priorities change according to your circumstances.

What if now you were offered $1000 or everlasting life? Which would you choose? At the moment, you may not be interested in the offer of eternal life, you may think I have plenty of time for that later. You may think you could enjoy the $1000 more right now for a season as eternal life is just not a priority for you. But on Judgment Day your circumstances will radically change. As you stand before a Holy God it will be too late and you won’t be able to change things.

The Bible talks of salvation that comes from the water of life and it is free.

The Spirit and the Bride say, “Come.” And let the one who hears say, “Come.” And let the one who is thirsty come; let the one who desires take the water of life without price. Revelation 22:17 ESV

Notice “without price”. You can have everlasting life and it is free to all who confess with their mouth that Jesus is Lord and surrender their lives to Him.

because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. Romans 10:9 ESV

The most important decision you will ever make in your life is to choose Jesus Christ as Lord of your life. If you haven’t done that yet, I urge you to seek Him out. If you need help with that feel free to email me through this site and I can help you get started. Remember, once you die it is too late. The time is now!
