God Maps

If you have a smartphone and are like me, you more than likely have some kind of map software installed. You could have either Apple Maps or Google Maps or both. Not that I was ever good at land navigation and finding my way around, but I have now come to rely on these apps in order to find my way to my destination.

When I want to go somewhere it shows my current location and then I put in the address I want to go to. It will then show me several routes that will get me to that location, some take longer routes and some will have obstacles along the way such as road construction. I will choose a path and head out. Sometimes I will get off track during my journey and take a road or turn that I shouldn’t. I may have taken a wrong turn by mistake, or I may have actually decided to leave the chosen route. Then you will see the app or hear it say “redirecting” and if you follow the directions you will find yourself back on the right road eventually at your destination.

Our Christian walk with God is very similar. Once we surrender to Jesus Christ as Lord He sets our feet on a path with the finally destination being at his side in His Kingdom in Heaven. The path He chooses can be either long or short but for sure will have obstacles that will slow us down at times and test us. But if we stay on the path he sets for us we will ultimately end up at our destination. The problem comes when we decide we want to take a different route, a short cut or just a different road because we think we know better. The road can be fraught with dangers and many obstacles that can cause us a lot of heartache and pain. They can also make our journey seem a lot longer than it needs to be and at time very lonely. But God also tries to redirect or correct our path and get us to follow His way again. He provides us with a great app for this too. It is His Word, the Bible and it can direct us all our life.

Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light for my path. Psalm 119:105 NIV

For these commands are a lamp, this teaching is a light, and the corrections of discipline are the way to life, Proverbs 6:23 NIV

And we have the word of the prophets made more certain, and you will do well to pay attention to it, as to a light shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts. 2 Peter 1:19 NIV

In God’s Word he provides us with an excellent app that can map out our path and show us the way to live as we make our journey toward our final destination in His presence. It never needs to be updated and never fails to open or has an error. All we have to do is pick it up and read it. If you’re struggling to find the right road, pick up His Word today, let it speak to you and let Him direct your path!

Well said, Mike. In my own life I’ve tried to take shortcuts and different routes, and they’ve always led me to dead ends. The only road I need is the one that Christ is standing on.

i believe in freedom of religion, you are free to believe in anything you like, from jesus, to allah, to the flying spaghetti monster, as long as you dont push it on others . I feel like thats what you are doing. I have been using your site for a long time and its always been a good source of vikings news. Everytime i see you trying to interject religion into it I cringe. I think its great that you have your faith, but leave it on a religious blog, not a sports one. You are obviously “blinded by the light” and feel the need to “spread the word”, but im pretty sure the vikings fans who read this page are capable of making there own decisions regarding religion and come here for the vikings, not “the word”

Hello Sean. Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts. I want to apologize for taking so long to approve and respond to your comment. I work in a machine shop and have very limited access to the internet especially when it comes to personal stuff.

To address your concern, you would be surprised. I get emails from people all the time and it runs around 50/50 concerning the Faith Blog and the articles I share on the main site. Some share your opinion and others like them and ask when the next one is. I use many sites on the internet and some have content that I feel is questionable or that I don’t agree with. I usually just ignore those and use the services that I like. That is what I generally tell people that don’t like the Faith articles. If it is not something you care for just pass it on by and use the rest of the site. It’s been 6 months since the last one posted here so there are not that many of them.

Thanks again for sharing your thoughts. I’m glad you use the site and hope you continue to do so. Either way I respect your thoughts and decision, enjoy the season and be blessed.

    Dear Mike,

Thanks for doing the faith blogs. It is nice to get Vikings updates and encouragement too. I suppose we all struggle at times on our journeys. It’s nice to know someone out there sees life as more than one dimensional.
